Immortal Jellyfish are not hermaphrodite, which mean they have separated sexes such as males and females jellyfish. How does the sperm reach the female eggs? Well, the male jellyfish release sperm into the ocean and the fertilization is by chances. If the sperm did make it to the female eggs, the fertilization will take place in the female gastrovascular cavity.(The picture on the right is the most common process of reproduction for most jellyfish, but for Immortal Jellyfish it is a bit different). When the eggs and sperms are fertilized, it's then will become an embryo that stay onto the mouth or oral arms of the female. After that, they will transform into a free swimming planulae larvaes and separate from the female body. At this stage, the planulae will station itself on top of a stationary object such as rocks, then the planulae turns into polyps. Polyps get their nutrients from zooplanktons and planktons.During this stage, more poylps are being made and the polyps that are located at the top are the fastest to mature. When matured and if the conditions are right. the matured polyps will break free and turns into a free swimming jellyfish. Most invertebrates die shortly after reproduction, but immortal jellyfish are different. After the sexual reproduction the parent jellyfish can turn into a polyp and become young again.
